Round hole is the most popular shape in the perforated metal market. Open area is one most important characteristic when designing or choosing a round hole perforated metal sheet. What is open area of round hole perforated metal sheet?

Open area is the total area of the holes divided by the total area of the metal sheet and normally expressed by persent. Open area reflects the ratio of perforated holes on the metal sheet. The most common percentage of open area is between 30% and 50% although more extreme open areas are available depending on the perforation. However, still there is one point to be considered when requiring larger open area. The larger the open area, the more material distortion takes place, especially when the perforated pattern is bordered by margins on all four sides. Because punching holes in a metal sheet adding stresses may result in distortion of the product.
